flame angel
I have a 29 gallon reef...There are a few fish I want but can not make up my mind. Would a flame angel be ok in a 29 gal reef? I hear they are reef safe, they are so pretty. I LOVE THE BLUE SPOT JAWFISH!!! but told that they dont do well in any tank. He has a black cap basslet and purple firefish. Which would you choose?

IMO a 29 is too small for a Flame Angel. Plus, they occassionally will pick at corals and clams.
Bluespot Jawfish are from the Sea of Cortez which has cooler water than most fish imported for the hobby. Because of this, I would not recommend one for a reef tank.

In general, dwarf angels are hit-or-miss in reef tanks. They are known to nip at corals, but it seems to vary from fish to fish. I've had two Flame angels in tanks over the years, and they both left the other tank inhabitants alone. One jumped out of the tank and died, so a cover is a good idea.

My 02
While a dwarf may do OK in that size tank .... your tanks fully stocked as is and I would stop shopping for fish. |

my flame did OK in the 29, but I bought it back in my neophyte days and later considered myself lucky that it didn't munch on the corals. Doc is correct that it's a crap shoot with varieties of dwarf angels as to coral nipping. I also agree with Kevin2000 that you probably have enough fish now. How old are the 6-line and hawkfish? They may yet have some growing to do as it is.

I'd go with the purple firefish. I've never owned one personally (though I keep thinking about getting one), but I think it would do just fine in your tank. Make sure the tank's covered, though. They are known jumpers.

I would agree with IslandCrow. I have a purple firefish and a flame angel in my 75. Both angels i have tend to pick at zoas, but leave everything else in the tank alone. Firefish don't pick on anything and they have amazing color! With you already having a few fish in your 29, I would recommend a regular firefish or a purple firefish. They don't take up or need much space, have gorgeous color, and unique little personalities. Firefish are great reef tank mates.
