It looks like that thread got deleted. Apparently group buys are not permitted on RC. The thread starter is looking to a place to host the GB which will probably be on the DFWMAS website.

Yeah I guess it did.. I only found this by doing a search for Apogee. We do group buys in our local club forum all the time.. I guess its not allowed in the main equipment forum.. How stupid.

We have had plenty of group buys here. Did the rules change?

I think it was because it was not in a club forum. The OP put it first into the classifieds, then into the Lighting forum.

Group buys are fine in the club forums. They are not allowed in some other forums because of a propensity for some vendors to organize "group buys". If they are in a club forum, it is much more like it is a true "group buy" and not a commercial endeavor.

Perhaps you should educate yourself on the facts before you direct members to other sites.

Its pretty easy to figure out the reason. You dont want venders orgainizing them.. Reguardless for the reason behind it. To me it is still a stupid rule.. If a RC member who has been registered here for a while and has quite a few posts I dont think it matters if he wants to start a group buy.. Ofcourse this could cause venders to make it easier to do group buys and maybe encourge them. But how is that bad?.. Everyone on the board saves 10% or more. I'm lucky enough to have a decent sized Reef club and we are able to do group buys alot. But ALOT of people dont. So group buys just arent' an option on their club forum. Even with our Decent sized club its hard to find enough people do doa group buy with a 250.00+ item
Also FWIW My Aqucontroller Jr Came from a group buy on this sight. It was posted in P.A. vender thread. Hows that different? Heck they started that one.

You may think it is "stupid" for us to not allow commercialization of the website in the main forums. We do not. Luckily, that is our decision or RC would become "Spam Central".

NO I didn't say commercialization of the website. I agree I dont want this site to be a Craigs list. But established members posting group buys doesn't seem the same to me.. I guess if its a problem for it to be in the Main Equipment forum. Then maybe have a forum for group buys.. Do it just like the selling forum.. Members have to have a min 100 posts or more to start one.
Dont get me wrong I'm very glad venders can't send me pms to buy junk from them. I'm also glad they can't jump into a build thread and push their products. To me though memebers doing group buys just dont seem the same thing.

A group of people in a localized area pooling their resources to buy a product to save on shipping costs and perhaps get a better deal from the vendor is a "group buy", and best handled in the club forums where the members are familiar with each other.
A thread posted in a generic forum with hundreds of people from all areas of the country participating is not a group buy, it is a commercial venture. I know if John Doe in my local club forum is a commercial dealer. I don't know about Ron Roe from Podunk, Kentucky.

Oh, and that is without mentioning all the "group buys" in the past that went bad when someone organized a "group buy" and the only thing people got out of the group buy was a lighter wallet, and the inability to pursue someone accross the country for $75.
There are reasons these rules evolve.

Brian, sorry for posting the link. Feel free to lock the thread, since it isn't about the original topic anymore anyway.

Nothing to be sorry about, it was all a matter of timing
