Just bought a new ER Sedra 5000 and still nothing! (Skimmer)

Guys I replaced my old sedra 5000 pump from Euro Reef because I wasn't getting the type of skimmate others was pulling out of their tanks. So I just replaced the pump. I run carbon in a canister filter, my returns go into a filter sock and I do water changes every two weeks. I have a ER CS8 2 skimmer. My water level is in the neck of my skimmer. Is my water that clean that I am not making skimmate? What is going on?

You need the pump to break in. As with any new part on a skimmer. Give it some time.

If the new pump needs to break in then why are people getting new skimmers that are instantly producing skimmate? There pumps didn't need to be broken in. I never heard of a pump needing to be broken in.

Most, if not all skimmers will not produce anything right out of the box due to oil/residuals leftover from the manufacturing process. Some people like to wash everything out before using it to help reduce this "break in period" where the residuals are removed proper skimming occurs.

Anytime oils are introduced to your system especially on skimmer parts will effect the skimmers performance.

Give your skimmer and new pump a vinager bath. That will speed up the process and that is what most people do with their new skimmer to get them to start working quickly.

Give it a week and you will see the skimming improve, unless you go for the vinegar bath and it will be a day or two.
