Fire Fish

I got a fire fish today. I have a few questions.
1) Do I have to keep them in groups of 3 or more?
2) Will things settle down in my tank? The clowns arent really messing with it because like I though they only mess with things there size. My coral beauty seems to keep chasing it. It is in a 46 bowfront.
3) I know it was a bit of a risk, I have a YWG/pistol shrimp pair. I think something happened to him. the fire fish shot right into the borrow of the YWG right when I put it in and I haven't seen the goby sense. I would assume that the pistol would have killed the fire fish before the fire fish killed the goby.
Any input would be appreciated.

I just got the answer to number 3. Looks like the yellow watchmen went to the other borrow on the opposite side of the tank. I was feeding the and he came out. Should I still be concerned or will they probably stay away from each other?

IMO all questions that should have been asked prior to buying the fish.

1. I only have one in my 75g and its doing fine. I've only had it in there for about 3-4 weeks, so its hard to to tell long term.

2. It should calm down in a couple days. Just try to get the fire fish some food.

I know, I didn't do my research. I went there more for a cleaner but they didn't have any today. It was a new guy working and he said it should work out. I don't like not getting anything cause its a 30 minute drive one way. I usually don't buy fish but its color caught my eye.

I think he will be fine too, I was just making sure that the fish store wasn't just trying to get more of my money by saying I need 3.

Sorry for the double post but I was posting right when you did devocepe.

It'll be fine - they can be shy until they feel at home

I have a red and purple fire fish and they are just fine together. Bought the red one on impulse as you did. The purple was bought about a month or so after. They hang out together at one end and I have never seen them fight. My purple tang on the other hand goes after the purple one but not the red. I’m guessing it’s the color.

Hey, I have another question. Should I go back down and get the other two they had or will it bo on my bio load. with them it would be
-A cinnamon clown pair
-coral beauty
-3 fire fish-
-YWG
Is that do able on a 46. I usually do 5 gallons a week or 2. I am atleast biweekly on my changes just some times once a week.

I dunno if you should have 3 in the tank. You might be able to get away with two. I've read from many sources the third one will get picked on until it dies. In a big enough tank it would probably be no problem, but with a 46G I don't think so. Of course, I can't say with much certainty b/c these are just things I've read. I've only got one myself

My prediction is that with three you will end up with two if you are lucky and they pair off or one if they don't. short term it will be fine, longer term, not. Oh, and be sure your tank is covered, and NOT with egg crate. They jump.

NO, unless you get a known pair or have a huge aquarium it's best to only keep one firefish. The dominant fish in a group can and will kill conspecifics.

Ya, you can't always trust the LFS. There are some great ones out there...others only care about making $$
