I find it adequate for a 54 reef with fuge and 30g sump. I would honestly say go proportionately larger for your size reef reef.

I use a Aqua C ev-180 on a 75 gallon. I think the 120 would be to small for a 90, you can't go wrong moving up one notch.

I used the 120 on my 90gal mixed reef for years. Worked great. I would suggest however to get a mag 7 or an eheim 1260 though.

I have the EV120 on my stocked 75g. If I had a 90g, it would need to be bigger IMO.

I used the 120 on my 75 with 30 gal sump. Worked great for me, BUT if I had the option, I'd say go with the 180, or at least the Mag 7. Once you get fully stocked with a big bioload, you may want the extra juice.

I have a 120 on my 90 gallon with an additional 60 gallons of water. I called Aqua C to see if I needed a larger skimmer and they told me no! I have only 6 fish in my tank, with plenty of coral and I'm more than fine. Bigger is usually better, but it can be overkill (larger expense, bigger pump = more electric) It really depends on your bio load and how often you want to maintain your equipment. HTH
