switch to an in-sump pump?

Well, after tinkering around with my external Blueline pump for the past week, I just can't seem to have it run quietly. I've tried insulation of several types and just can't reduce the constant drone to a reasonable level. Therefore, I'm thinking of trying an in-sump pump such as an Eheim. That brings up a couple questions that I'm hoping someone with experience with these can answer . . .

1. How do you like these pumps? Are they quiet, durable etc. . .

2. I'm debating between the 1250 and the 1260. The pump needs to raise the water just over 5ft. The 1250 is rated around 140gph at this height, the 1260 is closer to 500gph. Any thoughts on which might be more ideal? I like the price of the 1250 much better, plus it might be quieter since it's a smaller pump.

I have a 1262, I got it used and has been running in my system for almost a year. Very quiet and no problems with it at all to date.

i have both a 1250 and a 1262 - both are so old i don't know how long they've been going - and they keep going. depending on your overflows, i would go for the larger (1262) you can always put a ball valve in the return line of you need to

as far a quiet - if i didn't see the return flow in the tanks i wouldn't know they were running

I have the 1262, which I used to replace a mag. Temperature definately dropped and is very quiet. Would recommend.

I run mag pumps and love them. I run 2 mag 12's submersed and a mag 36. They are all near silent.

Quiet one pumps are strong too. i used to have them on my 60 gallon

I use all submersible pumps myself and most are Ocean Runners. But before you switch, how is your Blueline plumbed? This may be some of your noise problem. Solid or rigid plumbing transmits vibrations and sound, especially if it is torqued or stressed in any way. Its good practice to put a short piece of flexible tubing between the pump and sump and pump and return to break up any sound transmission and to relieve and stresses from uneven plumbing. Set the pump on a mouse pad, silicone rubber or other soft sound absorbing material also.
Just a few thoughts before you spend money on a new pump that you might not need.

Thanks for the feedback. Seems like these in-sump pumps are very quiet and dependable.

I currently have spaflex tubing before and after the Blueline pump. I also have a ball valve on the return side of the pump to control flow. I just can't seem to quiet this pump down - even with insulation.

What sort of tank turnover does everyone like to have via their return? That # will help me decide on what size pump to get.

I had a Eheim pump in my last tank and it worked great / quiet. I have a mag 12 now running externally and I'm having less overheating with it FYI.

What size tank do you have? Filling in the "current tanks" section will help us give advice that is appropriate to your situation.

Just got the tank, so I haven't had a chance to fill this out yet. I have a 90g tank with a 30g sump.

I like the Eheim 1260 in my 75g with 29g sump. I think it provides good flow. It is quiet, and has gone many months without being cleaned. I would recommend it.

I had the 1252 in my 90. It was enough flow.

Most will tell you you want 3 to 5x your display tank volume for turnover through the sump. My display is a 100, my sump is a 30 and I use a Ocean Runner 3500 as a return with about 5 feet of head. I would not go any less than the 3500 or an Eheim 1262 if it were me. I tested a 1260 and found it a little lacking.
