Easye123's 90g re-birth!
My 90g sps/lps reef was setup for about a year and a half give or take and was doing as good as can be.
I was getting great color and growth from all sps. Unfortunately, my tank pretty much crashed due to a suregrip magnet that fell in the overflow and busted open. After it fell, it was in to hard of a spot to reach(behind all the rock inside the back of the overflow) so I forgot about it(i didnt think it was possible for a suregrip to open... so I wasn't worried about it) Well, pretty much overnight, about the same time the magnet fell, I noticed a huge huge decline in my tank. My daily routine did not change at all. Filters, bulbs, everything was replaced and nothin helped. Work and college got real busy and since my tank wasnt doin good, I didnt have the time or money to try and save it. I got rid of most of my sps and most of my lps. Several months later work and school had cooled down and felt like gettin the tank back in gear. When cleanin the tank, I remembered the magnet fell a long time ago and decided to get it. Sure enough it was busted open with tons of rusted metal everywhere. BUMMER! I dont know how all my fish, some lps and a couple basic sps survived all that. Everything else was dead or dieing so I gave it away. Anyways, once I took out that magnet I noticed all the corals I had left were doing better. However, my sandbed was gettin really ugly lookin and was gettin stirred up all the time by my GSM,powerheads, etc. Weird brown algae was growin on the rocks. Even though corals were lookin a 100 percent better, I couldnt stand that algae and dirty sandbed. So........... after all that mess, I am pretty much starting over!!!!! My last thread was gettin old and I wasnt really updating it often so I thought id start a fresh new thread for a fresh new tank. Old tank thread- http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...&pagenumber=10 I have taken all the sand out of the tank and have decided to go BB. I will be using all the same equipment, except I will be adding a lot more flow. 90g RR w/ 30g sump 2x175 Mh w/ 15 iwasakis 2x110w vho super actinics. ER rs135 skimmer TLF carbon/phosban reactor eheim 1262 return 2xseio m1100, 2x koralia 3, and now 2x tunze 6045 nanostreams(modded). Lol gettin a mix of all the pumps goin. I will be at around 6000gph now as oppose to what I use to have..3000gph. All 100lbs of LR is in tubs cooking. The rock is only one week into the process though so there is a way to go. So far soo good with changing the system into a barebottom. I will also be having a more consistant and precise ca/alk dosing system this time around. Since this tank will be 98 percent sps(use to be 50% lps 50%sps), it will be a must. Current fish list- Sailfin tang, lavender tang, GSM clown, 4x green reef chromis. They have been in the tank for over a year and a half with no problems at all luckily. I hope this whole barebottom system works with regular siphoning, waterchanges, wet skimming, ca/alk dosing, and many more little things. I will be updating this thread a lot more often unlike the last one. lol. Any advice, input, comments are all welcome. Thanks for lookin! Evan
