Skimmer goes nuts - Canister Filter C-220
I set up a marineland canister filter on my 55g reef to help suck out detritus after I blow off the rocks.
When I turn it on the skimmer goes into overdrive. Why does it do this? Inside the filter is carbon, ceramic rounds, and some mesh filters. I dont have a sump so I can not set up a filter sock to catch the heavy stuff, I am hoping this will help out. |

Is it the carbon causing this, should I even be running my skimmer?

If it is new filter media or even a new filter there is resadue that has some oily content and it will make a skimmer go goofie for a bit
Two things you can do is run the filter for a while with the skimmer off or readjust the skimmer for a bit while doing this.
