Chiller Pump used as return pump for tank??
the max flow through my chiller is 1,000gph, minimum is 600gph
i think my mag 9.5 isnt keeping up; by that i mean thats theres not enough flow going through the chiller since its also used as my return pump for the aquarium. im trying to save on room and electricity bill does anyone know if i were to buy a 1,100 gph pump that it would be enough? i imagine that i would lose 200-300gph and it would be enough to cool down the water that goes through the chiller? what kind of pump would you recommend for this? Panworld, Gen-X, Iwaki?

I use an Ocean Runner 3500 for my return through a 1/4HP chiller and it works great.

I would use a good flow return pump, your chiller would more likley cool better with the inceased flow. I just bought a 1/3 hp and its inline with my return pump Coral Life 1080P External and it had some restiction in the flow because of a stuck ball valve and it only return about 700 gph after head preassure and the resticted ball valve.
I Replaced the ball valve and got the flow back to about 900 gph and I can tell a diffrence as the chiller runs less and cools the tank faster. |
