20Gallon to a 45Gallon. Tips Please.

I am moving my 20Gallon Tall's contents (2yr old Seahorse, Occi Clow, Pistol Shrimp, and LR) into a 45Gallon tank. The sand has been used for a few years, would I be better of just replacing it. I am thinking about going with a 1" sand bed, any comments on that? I am used to a DSB. Will the tank cycle if I use the water from my 20Gallon tall and the LR?

Using the water and LR from the 20 gal will help the 45 gallon tank cycle. You may want to add more live rock to help it cycle faster.

If you're just upgrading, you won't have a cycle, especially if you use a new sand bed. Just dump everything in the tank, starting with the new sand, and you'll be fine. If you want to add more rock, do so slowly to avoid any harmful cycle.

Will adding existing rock on top of new base rock create a cycle?
