Anyone ever perform an autopsy on their fish?
Thinking of doing this on my angel when I get back home.
I'll gut him up like my grandfather did when we would go boating. I think maybe buying a childrens microscope would be in order. |

hmmm well gutting it like grandpa did was most likely to cook it not for science. disecting and GUTTING are 2 different things.
microscopes are fun though, my moms hospital gave me a complete Tokyo Olympus microscope when they upgraded recently. i dunno if i'd waste my money on a cheapy one though your really not gonna see much at all |

The main part of using the microscope will just to inspect the gills. I want to confirm if it was heat that killed it or ich. |

Maybe Inachu will learn more if people stop responding. Might get the hint to take up another hobby, and stop distroying this one! People Get the Hint>

I have an idea what might have contributed to its death:
"Current Tanks: 7 clowns,1 yellow tail damsels,1 blue damsel,2 gobies,1 hippo tang,1 angel" But the angel now is gone...... |

In fish, you would be doing a necropsy, not an autopsy.
I would be extremely surprised if you found anything conclusive by doing one. For starters, you're only considering two of many possible causes of death. If it was ich, you're going to be looking for something roughly 1/4 of a mm across, buried within the gill tissue, which is hard to examine microscopically anyway because it's so highly folded and bloody. Assuming you don't find anything, that just tells you that you didn't find ich. It doesn't tell you that the fish didn't have it or that heat related issues (which don't leave tell-tale marks) caused this. You can certainly give it a try, but I don't think you're going to get any answers and getting into the gills will probably just make a bloody mess.

The choice may not be yours to make, but using the experience you have (no matter how much) you can recommend against cutting open a dead fish in an attempt to find what killed it. If you REALLY want to know, take it to a vet who can do a better inspection. Otherwise perform an outer inspection and bury the fish.
Let me ask you... If you had a dog and it died, whould you cut that open as well in an attempt to find out what killed it? tspors is justified on this posting...

You may feel that this is justified, I disagree. Understand that I will not put a lot of time and/or effort into moving your school yard spat off this board. Take the necessary steps yourself to create distance between you and this situation, or you will be part of the fallout. inachu, I'm growing tired of you.

Whats so wrong with asking about a 'fish autopsy'?
It's sad that he keeps killing fish, without the knowledge or the care for the species and hobby in general....but I'm not really sure what difference it makes as to whether or not he guts a fish. Its dead. Yes, I would want to gut open the family dog to know why it died, or that me putting it down was the right thing to do. Matter of fact, I had my vet do that. Found out there was a hole in his esophagus and he was never going to get better... poor little 8mos guy. Just a pup. Now I guess the difference is, I had my vet do that, I didn't throw him up on the table out back and get a knife... |

What's sad is that the knowledge has been spoon fed, and ignored.
