Sand
Right now i use caribsea Aragonite Aragamax ("oolitic" sand), like http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...1&pcatid=7321. I never noticed that it said for shallow sand beds for up to 1". My new tank will have a shallow bed around 1-2" that i plan on using this for. I plan on having a DEEP sand bed in fuge, should i not use this sand? Caribea also makes a Seafloor Aragonite sand, http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...6&pcatid=7326, i know the grains are bigger, but is there any real difference between the two?

according to caribsea's web site they do not advise a deep bed with "seafloor aragonite sand" but it would be fine to have a deep bed with the "aramax select" or "sugar sized"

I would use the sugar sized for your dsb in the fuge. The smaller grains are better in establishing an anaerobic layer needed in dsb for the denitrification benefit. I've read that the bigger grains would work but need deeper depths. For the main tank I would use the bigger grain to minimize/ eliminate sand storms.

I like the sugar sized live sand. I put aragonite in my fuge because I wanted something simple, but without the little organisms that come in live sand, it didn't immediately aid my nitrate removal. It's probably just starting to do so now.
