Why would you go lower?
A lot of people upgrade to a larger pump... never heard of going the other way.

I have broken up my system and I am parting it out. I have 2 MJ pumps for flow, a 1200 and a 900. My remora has a 1200 and somebody asked me if I would sell the 2 1200s instead of a 1200 and 900. I wasnt sure because I didnt know if the Remora would be worth anything with the 900 on it.

I would say that the 900 would definitely affect the skimmer performance in the wrong direction. Especially if your selling it to someone.
With the pump you could probably sell it for around $100, without the pump you may struggle to get $50 for it.
