Dip for live rock question
I have been having problems with some of my Zoas dissappearing and after some watching pretty closly after the lights go out I noticed pinwheel/sundial snails all over. I went to this www.coralpedia.com site but it did not have a effective method for getting rid of them. I have picked as many as i can off the rocks and zoas but how do i irradicate them totally from the live rock? Now on to my question....
Taking all coral off the live rock and putting just the live rock in a tote/ barrel has anyone ever used high or low salinity/ ph/ iodine/ temp(high or low) or anything else as a dip for the rock and for how long to kill the predator/irritaters without killing off the benifical bacteria and coraline algea? |

You might have more success if you put all your zoas in one place where they're easy to reach. Take the colonies out whenever you see the sundial snails gathered on them and give them a quick freshwater dip. Brush off those that don't let go. Eventually you'll get them all because they will keep heading back to the zoas to eat. This worked in ridding my montiporas of nudibranches. Of course that was when they were frags and easy to move. If I got the pests now, when the corals have grown onto the rock, I'd have a real problem.

I would post this question in the Zoanthid forum.
