NEw Tank

Ok so I just bought 3lbs of Live Rock for my tiny little 2.5 Gallon Tank for College. I have some pretty cool hitchhikers however this was kinda strange. One of My shrimp "died" he was laying there from the Rock, ( I figured he didn't survive the trip from the fish store to my home). Anyways I turned off the lights and he started moving around and started cleaning etc. How did he go from upside down to swimming, I know some creatures only move around at night, but he was exposed in the light the whole day. Any Thoughts?

what kind of shrimp was it, my coral banded shrimp hangs out upside down sometimes looking like he is dead. It is strange if it was just in the open upside down.
