Bubble coral headed to coral heaven. :(

Are these guys sensitive to anything else other than strong flow? Mine was so full for weeks when I first got him and now he looks like a blob of snot un a rock.

That is probably the case for me too. That's odd though because everywhere I read says they need moderate to high lighting and they are photosynthetic.

Take him out of the main flow and place him under a ledge or slightly shaded area on the bottom of your tank with just very limit water movement. If there is any fleshy areas left on him at all, in a month or so, he should come back out.

Ok. Thaks for the tip. There are some fleshy areas left. I'll give that a try.

Has to be one of the easiest coarls I have. Mine is not however in the direct MH beam but does get plenty of light. My 2 cents.

No brown looking stuff. It does look like on some of the skeleton that he's sqeezing some dirt or algae looking stuff out.

Other than that the bubbles don't fill up much at all right now.

I rescued a goner for sure from a LFS 2 months ago, and he is now filling back out and even getting his sweepers back. It will just take a little time and patience.

They had placed him in a direct water flow from a power head in an over crowded tank to begin with and once it tore him up a bit, instead of removing him and trying to save him, they just discounted him down to 4.50 and was more or less selling him for his skeleton.

Where I live we have to pet stores one is Petco and the other one was opend by people that worked at Petco, basically the difference in the coral survival is wanting to properly care for it, or just trying to make a dollar off of it without knowing it needs.

Im sure they are both photosynthetic and carniverous.

I mean, those tentacles come out for a reason.

I feed mine silversides where the mouth is. When the bubbles grab on to it, it opens its mouth and consumes the whole 5" silverside.

During the day the bubbles are fully expanded.

During the evening the bubbles deflate and large tentacles come out.

I think the high flow might have affected it, mine is in an area with very low flow. All that water must have ripped its flesh and it cant rapidly heal.

Try putting it in a lower flow area and sufficient light. Medium to Low lighting, it is an LPS not SPS so dont over expose it.

What benefit is there to buying the skeleton?

I didn't mean it that way, what I was getting at was that there was nothing other than his skeletral structure showing and a couple little tiny flesh bubbles left. So for all practicle purposes someone would have been buying a skeleton.

The only reason that I bought him was that I figured with proper care he would at least have a fighting chance.

I see. duh...

So you actually brought him back to health huh? What about putting him in a hospital tank with the same water with no flow and no light for a few days? I can feed him some brine and / or mysis shrimp to make up for the lack of light...or is that just plain old silly?

Thanks sk8r, I was not aware of that with Kenya Trees, I don't have any, but at least I will always know.

Mangelo, I feed all of mine Brine as well as Mysis, not so much for making up on light, just the fact that I know they will eat it.
