What's your favorite aspect of the hobby?

What is your favorite thing in the hobby?

Is it the coral?
The fish?
The equipment?

I find myself browsing the threads and looking more at the equipment and planning put into the tank more than the fish and coral.

So what's your favorite?

I like how hard it is.

A direct result of that is everything you learn to try and not fail. Chemistry, biology, animal behaviors, all sorts of auxiliary knowledge to try and keep this glass box full of tropical critters from dying in the middle of the night. All the technology and knowledge required to keep that from happening.

I think I would have to say the equipment. I love to tinker with things and am always looking to change or do something different with my tank. I love gadgets and stuff......

I would have to say that planning a tank is one of the more enjoyable aspects of the hobby for me. I love planning out the inhabitants, choosing the equipment, designing the aquascape, etc.. I like reading about the different pumps, skimmers.
Starting a new tank is really exciting....full of potential.
The drudgery of tank maintenance is boring (but of course necessary) for me.

The water changes. I just love ‘em....kidding.

1) corals
2) fish
3) other inverts.

And as nattarbox touched on, it’s fun to do a little biology, chemistry, and engineering.

I like the biology. I love the fish and like the coral as a landscape to accent the fish. I hate the mechanical stuff.

For me it is the support system behind the tank:

And more electronics to come!

I like the challenge of simplifying things and eliminating equipment that makes reefing look like a college science project. As my sig says, I'm into more biology and less technology.

That and staring into my tanks for hours .........
