My RO/DI water smells like plastic (PVC); is this a problem?

Hello:

I recently upgraded my setup with 2x 36 gallon PVC (Poly propeline?) drums in order to mix my own saltwater as well as having a nice reservoir or RO/DI

I cleaned the containers with baking soda thoroughly however I was not able to get rid of the plastic smell. I proceeded to fill up the 36 gal RO/DI as well as the 36 gal salt-mixing container and let it sit overnight

This morning I noticed that the RO/DI which I get from this container for drinking water as well as for evaporation smells like plastic! Is this a big issue?

Should I not use this water to top off my tanks? what about using this water to mix with salt?

Your advice is welcome.

Regards,

Estefano

My plastic containers smelled like plastic for some time after I started using them. I had no problems with it. Many reefers use these containers and have odors for some time afterwards with no negative results.

I agree that I would not worry about such smells.

Thank you gentlemen for the responses. I was afraid I may leech some bad stuff into the water.

Estefano
