Submersible????

I have a Mag7 that is not working. Same thing has happened on almost all of the Mags I've had in the past. Pump powers up (hums) and the impeller rattles intermittently but won't actually pump water / spin. I used to be able to get it going by shaking it or lifting it out of the water and then re-submerging it, but now even that is not working. I am tired of replacing these pumps every two years or so. I've tried in the past to fix this by simply replacing the impeller on two larger models (Mag 9 and 24) but that didn't work. Do you have the same experience with Mags?

Any recommendation on a different brand of submersible to use? Sen 700 or Eheim 1260 or 1262 maybe? I use the pump to feed my skimmer and it runs through ~ 5' feet of HORIZONTAL (maybe only 1' of vertical) reinforced vinyl tubing before entering the reaction chamber of the skimmer. Looking for something with about 700gph.

TIA

Eheim 1260. Even though it is "rated" a bit lower in flow than a Mag7, in reality, it has a lot more flow and handles head a lot better. It is also a heck of a lot quieter. As far as reliability goes, they are extremely good.

Since you are looking to upgrade to a reliable pump, go with the Eheim.

i use both mag and eheim
eheim last longer, run cooler, cost less to run
on the mag pump you might just need to replace the small washers
on the impeller shaft (there plastic)
