I am in the market for a quality ATO. I recently upgraded to MH and upon going 'topless' am noticing a lot more evap(I expected this). Its not a big deal for me to add water daily but would enjoy the stability of the ATO. I live in an apartment on the 3rd floor and am sure the neighbors wouldnt approve of the ater running down their walls, so saying that I am looking for something HIGHLY reliable. I have heard horror stories of ATO not shutting off and the DT overflowing, and I can't have this happening. I'm not out to buy the best of the best, but I have learned that with reefs you get what you pay for, so Im not trying to rig something that kinda works.
Sorry for the novel and thank all you reefers in advance -J

I like my tunze osmolator but the pump keeps getting air bubble causing it to stop pumping. emailed tunze and they are trying to troubleshoot the problem. From what ive read the tunze optical eye never fails and there is also a float switch that sounds an alarm if it were to fail. The pump is small enough to fit in a typical 5 gallon water jug.

I have the Tunze Osmolator as well. It's a nice piece of equipment and owrks very well. However it does not have a fail safe switch only an alarm for overflowing. I would go to autotopoff.com and get 2 regular float switches one to turn the pump on and one off in case of overflowing. I have their switched too and they are built very well and work great.

I run JBJ, and I love it. it has two float switches, one in the sump and the other in the top off water for fail safe.

The Reef Fanatic Dual level controller is very nice. Two float switches that can be used in multiple configurations. It is also sensitive enough that you dont even see a level change in your sump. It will only top off a small amount at a time which is very important if you top off with limewater. It also has a hystereisis so that it doesn't cycle on an off if the water is a little rough.
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...ry_Code=Dosers I use an Aqualifter for the topoff pump. http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...Category_Code=
