20k bulbs prevent algae growth?

Does a 20k phoenix MH bulb prevent algae growth and red slime/Cyano?

Not in my case. i have more patches of red algae popping up under my mh"s (250 w/ 20k). my compact flourescent(4x65w10k,actinic) gives me more green algae. not sure why tho.
