Hey, I got dragged back here...

Hey everyone,

I've been out of the rc scene for about 2 years, stuck working on cars and stuff. Since then, I have had a 125 crack on me, and I now am running a 60 cube setup that I put together. Anyway, I just made a nice long post, but rc said it was too long, and it just got deleted, so Im not gonna re-write the whole thing, here's the short version.

Saw that my clowns have eggs, and I want to get back into the hobby a little bit. So i want to give a shot a raising them.

I have a blacked out tank to put the fry in, and I know some stuff about breeding, but not enough.

First, do I need to put the parents in the small tank with the fry? I dont want to because I would hate to freak out the parents and risk losing them...

I am planning to, when the eggs are about to hatch, siphon them off the rock (ive seen it done lemme know what you think), and put them in this little blacked out tank with an airstone and heater.

I know they need rotifers (plan to buy some at store), will this work to feed them, and for how long, how do i do it etc... I know I can grow the roti's, but dont want to have to grow algae for them and stuff-

Basically, how can I make this work. I know the first batch of eggs may not do well, but I would like to learn.

Btw I'm a senior in high school, so I dont have all kinds of time to devote to this, hopefully there is a simple route i can take.

Thanks guys (and gals)-- appreciate the help,

Here are some pics. I know the tank is kind of a mess (along with my RO setup), but like I said im just getting motivated to get involved in the hobby again, feels good to be back though

also, I know I'm not a pro photographer, aight?

Tank, sump (in garage), closed loop i never use..., and little tank i plan to use for fry

Here is little tank

Nice looking set you have.. I hope this doesn't come off sounding wrong, but with the questions you are asking, I would do a little more reading and research before attemping this. you mentioned you don't have a lot of time to devote to this.. if you have a batch hatch then you are in for about 21 straight days of daily care at about 1-2 hours a day with all the feedings, waterchanges and tending your food cultures.. that being said. it can be done

I will answer this question,, dont siphon the eggs off the rock,, you will kill them

Ok thanks, should i just go for tanking out the rock then, I think I can make it work.

Yea no offense taken, thanks for the suggestion and I am doing research, just though I could post up here for a few quick clear ups...

Yes, you can take out the rock, but try to keep the rock submerged during the process to avoid damaging the eggs.

you can buy the food needed to sustain the larvae but without your own supply if live food, it can get VERY expensive.. good luck and keep us updated

nice tank! there's a good book about care and breeding of clownfish that you might check out. I think it's just called "Clownfishes"
