Tangs..how many in a tank

I am planning to buy me a "Dory" and was wondering if I will have trouble keeping it with a yellow tang and a Vilamingi. Both my yellow and Vilamingi are getting along so far with no problem. As long as they are not the same shape then tangs will get along as far as I heared. Is that true?

Generally, different species will get along okay, but they'll need plenty of space. Especially the hippo. Assuming they are going in the 135 in your sig, that's barely enough room for one full grown hippo.

your Vilamingi will outgrow your 135 alone, ans so will a hippo tang. but to answer your question yes they would probably get along as long as the yellow didn't cause too much trouble ( they can be very aggressive)

yep, like others have pointed out you're borderline if this is going in the 135. That vlamingii can reach 2 feet in length, and seeing as a 135 is only 18" front-to-back, you can see how that's not a good solution. I'd not recommend adding the hippo tang into the mix.

Thanks guys. I don't think all fish will reach the maximum size anyways. I think they will be limited depending on the size of your tank compared if they are in the wild.

Do not believe that. That is a bunch of crap. Fish may not reach their full potential but they will come within a few inches of it. I have seen fish grow so big in tanks they cannot turn around. The fish will outgrow it or die from stress in the process.

Even if that were true, it's not exactly a healthy environment.

if a fish doesnt reach max size in an aquarium its because the water condition was poor or the food was poor

i used to believe that a long time ago...fish will only grow to their tank size
no way D: things can get HUGE if the water is nice and clean and the fish are taken care of

If you saw someone mistreating a dog or cat would you say something to them to try and correct it?I am just someone who cares about my pets and when I see someone mistreating them I will say something to correct it. Calling anyone "tang police"does not help anyone.It is just a cheap shot aimed at making yourself feel superior by belittling a concerned pet owner.Please think before you type.

Thats like saying if someone put you in a closet when you were little you would just stop growing because you were a small confinement.

The Paracanthurus heppatus (Hippo/regal tang/ dory)will max at about 12 inches and should do well in a 6 foot tank.I do not think it will fight with the other tangs you have.
