Green birds nest lost the green?
I have two green birds nest and have lost the green slowly over 3 months. The tops have almost turned white? I also have some green hairy mushrooms in the same tank and they too have faded some. My light is 7 t-5 bulbs with a mix that the grim reefer suggested. Cal is 500, Alk 8-9, Phos 0, Nit 0,
Any thoughts Thanks |

i had the same thing and i have since added cyclopleeze and colors are slowly coming back. i believe corals really do need feeding not just fish poop. i know this may start a conflict of opinions on feeding but consider this. most people feed their tanks frozen foods and while melting food is in the water column and thus corals get to feed. i was feeding mostly live brine and almost no frozen food. then i started to feed frozen and corals began to color up better.

Agreed, cyclopleeze turned my light orange monti to almost a red. My birds nest is glowing since using cyclopleeze a couple times a week.

It will likely re-color if it is a hystrix. Tough coral. I often have them come in and look gorgeous, only to fade on the tops under intense lighting - but inevitably, they start tanning up the most beautiful bright pinks and greens. I also like to feed CE that I blend with some other stuff for a while.

Could I have too much light? Cause now my pink birds nest is not very pink any more. Everything that is blue in the tank looks great? How long do you guys run the lights?

I have one that lost its brillant green when I put it in my tank under 2x250w halides. It turned white mostly, so I moved it to the back lower corner where it did not get alot of light, and over the past couple of months, it has started to get its green back. I think that the one that I have, definately lost its green due to too much light. Looking alot better now.

i run 6 t5's on a 90 gal for 8 hrs a day then 2 t5's for morning and dusk. just about all the corals colored up better after i began feeding frozen foods. to combat phosphate buildup problems i bought a bubble king mini 200 skimmer for my 90 gal. now when i put food in, the skimmer takes it out before it can brake down and cause problems.
