Is 4x 95 watt VHO enough light to support sps or clams on the upper half of a 75 gallon.
Any kind help would be great. thanks Alan |

I had a 5x 95 watt setup on a 45 breeder, which seemed very bright. However, I don't think the intensity is there with VHO. Mostly I had LPS and softies which did fine. Heck they did great.
The sps and 1 clam I tried did okay, but never really thrived. The clam stayed the same size for about an entire year and never really grew. Actually, the orange cap I had did pretty good; I had some of the most brilliant orange, but it did seem to develop an odd growth pattern but I blame that on the poor water flow. Anyway, in retrospect, I don't think the VHO really had the intensity necessary for good sps for clam growth. |

A couple of the most beautiful SPS dominated tanks I have ever seen were VHO only. Growth was tremendous and color was fantastic. One of those tanks was a 75 too, the other was a 60.
VHO seems to get a bad rap but they still produce a lot of light and nothing sold matches the actinic coloration of the UVL Super Actinics. I don't know if he ever comes on here anymore but try PM'ing buggle and see if he won't post a few pics of his old setup, it was amazing. |
