salt creep on bulkhead

I was looking under my stand and noticed some salt on the bottom underneath my two overflow bulkheads. I have a center overflow with two bulkhead drains and two return bulkheads. I don't notice any water damage but did feel salt around a few of the bulkhead fittings. I had this problem a few months ago but did have a very small leak on one of the bulkheads before I tightened it up. I tightened up all the bulkheads yesterday by hand.

After the long summary, my question is whether this is a normal problem and every once in a while you need to tighten up the bulkheads or should I worry that I can't tighten the bulkheads enough by hand to keep from getting some salt creep over time?

I don't think you should have salt creep on your bulkhead. In all of my years I have never had it on my drains (at least not while in good working order). It's possible the gasket needs to be replaced. Have you removed the standpipes recently for any reason? You may have sand or other particulate matter under there. I would remove them, completely clean the bottom and then replace (including the gasket if it looks like it needs it)
