75 setup...opinions

Im setting up a 75...looking for a general consensus as to the best setup. Factory overflow, something like from glass-holes.com, hang on overflow. Closed loop or powerheads. T-5 or MH. Best return pump and best skimmer. Any response will be appreciated.

on my 75 i had 2 x 54 watt T5 and 2 x 250 watt MH. i bought a coralvue retro kit that was very reasonable and worked well.

i liked the reef ready option. but hang on back overflow do give you more room in the tank.

i wished i had a closed loop on my 75 but i ended up with plenty of flow with two seio's and it didnt look bad at all.

for skimmer i had a ASM G1X. it worked great and at a great price point

here is a picture of my set up about before i broke it down and moved

Where did you find the lighting? Ive been looking and found a 24'' MH fixture with moonlights for $110...I was gonna buy 2 and mount them in the canopy. Good idea or no?

I have a 75 galllon and love my set up, however there are a few things I wish I did different.

Overflow - Go with BeanAnimals overflow. Basically a coast to coast, quiet, fail safe set up. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...readid=1310585

Flow - I'm running a Dart closed loop and I love it. I don't have a OM 4 way on it and I wish I did.

Lights - I'm running 2 x 175 Watt MH. I wish I had 250 watts. I'm a fan of MH with supplementing T5's.

Return Pump - I'm running a Mag 7. I had a Mag 5, but wanted a little more flow thru the sump. I'm happy with it, however most people prefer a Quiet One or Eheim over the Mags.

Skimmer - I'm running a ASM G3 with no MODs and I am very happy with it. Depends on how much you want to spend here, but a ASM G3 or Octopus NW200 would work great.

I have 6xT5 set up, But last night, I oreded 2 250 Lumenmax elite DE relectors, 2 pheonix bulbs, and 2 icecap 250 ballasts. SO... But as far as T5 goes, It costs the same to replace bulbs, even more. you save like 5$ a month on the electric bill.

I have a RR tank, I don't like to drill and all that stuff, It ends up costing more, if you don't have the tool, and the time spend.

Flow I have two hydor 4s. and 1 maxi with the 1400 GPH propeller on. the 2300 was too much flow.

If I could go back, I would have went bare bottom.

Return pump, Mag 9.5 and it is perfect. (maxing my overflow out)

Skimmer I have a modded NW 150, I bought the 150 when I had a 55Gal setup. and I did not want to drop another 200, So I kept it, and it is OKAY, nothing too good, I have 1 fish, so its fine I guess.

Im thinking a mag 7 return, possibly a coast to coast overflow. I def want halides, but I need to know what kind, retro or fixture and I need em cheap. Ive got a baby on the way and the only way my girlfriend will let me do this is if I keep the whole thing low cost. Im building the stand myself, and the only thing I really need to buy new is the tank. Im gonna drill it myself and all thet, but if anyone has some cheap lights, I would appreciate a PM.

Its tough buying anything on this site...some people expect their used equipment to bring new or better prices. One guy was selling a light I was interested in, and he told me he needed to get $180 for it because he paid $175 for it over a year ago...Its ridiculous.
