I'm not sure what would be BAD about running carbon. It has many beneficial purposes, clarifying water, which allows more light penetration, cleaning any impurities out of the water, helping to remove chemicals that corals put off as part of their chemical warfare......etc. I don't think most run it 24/7 all the time, but some do.

i run it 24-7 and have done with this present tank and all the others ive had over 20 years or so, it keeps the water looking crystal clear and can keep many chemicals away from the tank as it absorbs vertually everything, including chemicals released from soft corals fighting for reef space, great stuff carbon, just avoid using it in hospital tanks as it will soak up medication

Yes, great safegaurd. Helps eliminate possible toxins from the water column. Keeps the water clear and is great, cheap insurance.

I run it 24-7 as well. I have a filter sock full in my sump and try to replace it every ~45 days.
