Sump/Refugium light?
I'm looking for a quality sump/refugium light. Something to grow Chaeto and that can "clip on" or that is equally convient.
Ideas? What are you guys using out there. |

any clamp lamp with a low kelvin rated PC bulb will do fine. i used a clamp lamp from the reptile section at a LFS, threw a 6000K PC bulb in. works wonderfully.

Melevs bulb is good but if you cant find it locally I would never pay the $11 for the bulb just to pay 10 more for shipping. Pmolan suggestion, although simple and to the point, is exactly what I would do. You should be able to walk out of HD with those components for less than 10 bucks.

My HD has a two pack of the 6500k CF bulbs for less than $10. I have seen similar packs in WalMart for about $7 bucks. The 6500K flood lights work well from what I have heard. They also have a built-in reflector.

I've used the cheapy clamp on fixtures before, but I actually had one start to shock me when working around the sump. I'd recommend finding something grounded if possible. Otherwise, you can easily DIY without buying a fancy tank light.

I'm running the ultra cheapo wal mart clip on work light w one of the 6500k Cf bulbs. Total setup cost about $12 and I have to throw away chaeto cause it grows so quickly. I may have to agree on getting one of the grounded lamps. I've been shocked before from a little splashing water, but think I'm just immune to it at this point.
