MSX 200 Vs Octopus Extreme 200
After some research these two skimmers have received excellent reviews. Looking at both skimmers, and watching their production on Youtube they both look very similar in build and production. The MSX received better reviews but I don't know why as both skimmers look extremely similar.
If anyone has any experience with either could you give me your thoughts. |

I have the Extreme 200 and LOVE IT..... the sludge that comes out is AWESOME!! I upgraded from a Euro Reef RS 135. Tank is MUCH better looking with this skimmer!

Have you three had to do any modifications? I'd much rather have a plug and play.

also the octo comes with a longer warranty and better customer service if you get it from reefspecialty.com (based on what i've read in the msx thread)

Anyone out there have the MSX? If so what are your thoughts? Is it somehow better or worse than the Octo?

i think the MSX is better because the soft pinwheel supplied with the octo is not as good as the hard one from MSX but they are pretty much the same.

The skimmers are identical. The MSX has been out longer, so it has a larger install base and more reviews.
You can't go wrong buying either. The MSX is a little cheaper, and the Octo Extreme has a little better support.

Got the MSX 200 running on my 90. I put some bulkreefsupply rock in thta had soaked for a month and its a BB tank. Its already pulling out some nice gunk!
After about 20 days it has 3 inchs+ of some nasty lookin stuff. The skimmer is huge and amazing as I am used to a CSS125 that is currently on my 55g probably dripping and destroying my hardwood floor as we speak |

Thank you all for the replies. The skimmers do look identical. So I'm probably going to go with the Octo extreme. Just because it looks like it would be easier to get some customer service support.

they're the same skimmer to my knowledge. I have the octo and it's pulling gunk out like a champ. But you do need to set the water level in the sump to get it dial in.
