Another LR Question
I will be converting my 135 gallon freshwater tank over to a FOWLR tank in Feb/Mar. Currently I have a 38 gallon sw tank with about 50 lbs of LR. I have a chance to buy 40lbs of really nice lr from a person getting rid of his tank. Question ... I have an empty 20 gallon tank ... could I put sw, a heater, light, and a powerhead in the 20 gallon with this 40 lbs of live rock for 3-4 months to keep it alive ... will the corraline algae survive? Do I need to add a damsel or cuc? I figured I could also put some sand or small piece of lr from my 38 gallon to help cylce if that is necessary. What do you think? Thanks.

you could run the 20 as a tank set up on its own and then use the contents to start your new tank when ready, it will be good practise for the 135

I see no problem with keeping it in the 20 for that period. No need to add a fish unless you want to use it as a Q-tank while it is set up. Lighting doesn't need to be anything special either. Just a couple of daylight N.O. fluorescent tubes will do.
