I like the blade/grass type. Can be very hard to find though.

I vote skip the caulerpa.

If you have your heart set on it, go with the thicker, meatier type and not the feather kind....as it tends to get *everywhere* and is a pain to remove when you get tired of it.

Short answer: The grape caulerpa is relatively safe if you have any, I can't see the pictures. The leafy stuff can go sexual if you don't prune it regularly.

I think chaeto works out better in most systems because microfauna can actually consume it. Caulerpa has a noxious chemical called caulerpenyne in it that's toxic to anything that tries to eat it.

I use both myself, but I've found that caulerpa grows faster and even out-competes cyano for nutrients. Faster growing means that more nutrients get exported every week when I go to remove a handful.

I keep both kinds without an issue. I have had better luck with the grape as far as growth. The grape does better in fast flow areas while the feather does better in the low flow areas. Have never had an issue with ether going sexual.

Also FYI, cheato does not work for everyone. Cheato does not do well in high flow fuges, at least IME
