Emergency... Noob at Diatom filter!

I hooked it up for the first time (bought it used) and read the directions via there website. I thought I read it correctly as well as hooking it up correctly.
Problem is the entire tank is now completely cloudy from the diatmous earth stuff. Any ideas? It said a little may enter the tank and is safe... its a lot more than a little.

what should I do?

o yea it the vortex xl

The water coming out of the outlet has the diatom powder in it.
