Need adivce on fresh water storage and salt water mixing bins!!!
I am setting up my RO/DI, I bought two brute trash cans. One will be my fresh water and the other will be for salt water. I was considering having one can overflow into the other. Then having a flaot valve or switch to stop it in the second one. I would have a bulkhead and ball valve at the bottom of each for easy draining...does this sound ok? I have read about people having tons of problems with float switches and ro units so Im not sure if I should be worried about flooding my garage!?
Please show some pics of your setup so I can get some ideas of how you have your water storage

Tiger Army Never DIE!!!
I would consider worst case scenario- what would get ruined by flooded garage? I never set up an auto top off cuz I was never quite comfortable with the possibilites, but I am sure someone has a foolproof setup.

I have two barrels, one for salt one for fresh. i split the ro/di exit line with a Y and then put in ball valves after. I put float valves not switches, in each barrel. the float valve closes when each is full and the auto shut off valve on the ro/di shuts the system off. i then shut the ball valve off to the barrel i mix salt water in since i mix 25g at a time and don't want the system to top if off. i leave the ball valve open on the fresh water so it constantly tops off.
i don't see how the float valve can fail other than if the rubber seal went out.

mmmm, no. pops borrowed my camera. sorry.
I used two cinder blocks on each side and put a board on top and sat my barrels up there. Then i plumbed each barrel with a 1" male pvc fitting to a female fitting and installed ball valves. really easy setup, i'm very happy with it.

cool thanks for the respnse, I think I have a pretty good idea of how your set up.
Anyone else want to share their setups? I would like to see how you are doing it and here what has worked and what you would change about your water storage setup!!!

In the garage, my RO/DI storage container sits above my saltwater mixing/storage container. The RO/DI container has a float valve that shuts off water production from the RO unit. I have two ball valves from the ro storage, one that gravity feeds down into the saltwater container, and the second connected to a hose so that I have access to the RO/DI water.
The saltwater container has a dedicated Mag 7 pump connected to a long hose that I run to the tank during water changes. The Mag 7 is remotely controlled by an X10 unit so I can shut it off from inside the house.
