Painting the fish room

Hey All -

I wanted to paint the basement fish room where the equipment is. And also the inside of the wall above the aquarium where the lights are.

Obviously I'll need a moisture resistant paint. White is preferable.

Any suggestions, or what have you done in the past?

Thanks,
Matt

As long as the surface does not come into contact with water, a good primer and latex finish should work.

FRP Fiber Reinforced Plastic, They use it in commercial kitchens and bathrooms. Its water proof and very tough. I covered the walls and ceiling with it. A good latex paint would work to. Just depends on how water proof you want it. I wanted to make sure mold wasn't a issue.. I also didn't want paint flaking off in a few years.

Another thought is to make sure you use low emitting paint. Most paint when placed emits a significant amount of VOC's. These fumes are harmful to people and wildlife. Try to find something that is "Green Seal" certified.
It is more available today than it was years ago due to the rapid increase in environmentally friendly construction.

FRP is sold at Home Depot and lowes as well as the trim and glue for it. Restaurant supply places also sell it.

I love FPR. We use it in our restaurants and I have it in my tank room as well as the pump room in the basement.

Low VOC paints still could affect the fish. NO VOC paints are available at about the same price as top end paints. I have seen it recently at Home Depot for the same price as their interior wall paints.

Thanks, I forgot the "or no" in my original post. People would be amazed at all the places those VOC's are found.
