What is this???
Hi I am starting up a marine tank and have been cycling for about 5 weeks. I one of the live rocks a little pink coral grew, at least I thought it was. Over the last 2 or 3 days it has moved about 1/2 an inch. The picture shows where it was and where it is. The green thing that is in its old position grew after the coral thing so that may have upset it somehow but I thought coral could not move. That is what has me puzzled. Does anyone know what it is???
will up load pic to gallery soon. Last edited by Hizees; 11/10/2008 at 05:02 AM. |

Can't tell from that pic. Can you get a closer/clearer shot?

I agree, it's hard to tell. Keep an eye on whatever-it-is, and see how it behaves over the course of the day. If it expands when the lights come on, and shrinks when they go out, it's more likely to be a coral of some sort.
Is it a disk at the end of a stalk, or is it more of a puffball? It could be a zoanthid, a mushroom, a sponge, or some sort of anenome.

I will try to get a better picture of it. Karlbob it is a disc on a stick. It closes up at night and opens during the day. Where it has moved is towards a window so it would seem to like the light.

Is that black sponge I see in the pic? (gargonian shaped thing) If so, kiss everything in the tank it touches goodbye, and I hear they sting people something fierce too.
