How to cure rock that was pulled from a tank?
I have rock that was alive at one point. It got taken out of a tank years ago and put in a storage tote. I was curious as to what I should do to safely clean the rock so I can use it again? Thanks! Adam

A long bristle plastic scrubber and a running hose will do wonders

I hope it never catches on, I like having the oldest tank on here and I don't have to worry about calcification, bio pellets, Vodka dosing, DSBs, Chaetomorpha (I don't even know what that is) Carbonite hardness and all of these other things many people worry about. If I had to think about all of that stuff I would get a stroke. My test kit came in a wooden box and the directions say to keep in a cool chariott. I throw some food in the tank, wave hello to the fish and go out with my wife and have a nice glass of merlot with dinner. Have a great day but most of all, have fun. -PaulB Current Tank Info: 27 Gallon DAS softy/fish reef |

I would then put it in some rubbermaid bins ( or something similar ) with salt water, a powerhead for water movement, and perhaps a HOB skimmer if you have an extra one laying around. After a week I would do a water test on it (( including phosphates )), you have no idea what ( if anything ) is "stored" inside those rocks. I would want to know if they are holding onto anything before putting it in the tank. Might seem like a pain in the butt, but if they were holding onto anything, the algae bloom would be a bigger pain in the butt to deal with.

I have pressure washed LR prior to cooking it. It does make nice rock when it is all done.
