When I emailed BRS they said there are export issues in Tonga I believe, so it may be a while before they can get more. I didn't check with Marco, but maybe they are having the same problem. Those are the only two good sources I know of for dry rock. I would email them and see if they know any more.

If you can I would definately recommend Bulk Reef Supply. I love their figi eco rocks. After I ordered it was at my door in 4 days. I heard that Marco is quite slow so I went with BRS and was not dissapointed.

100 lbs of BRS rock in my 90. Decide for yourself; I told them I wanted to build two islands with some shelves, they really hand pick the rock and do a great job:

this is great, but as I stated initially in my post, BRS - bulk reef supply and Marco dont have any rocks right now, there are some export/import issues... so I need alternatives!

I mentioned above, www.reefcleaners.org has 450 pounds of great Florida base rock available on their website at $2.50 a pound with free shipping.

Here's a link to my thread with some photos of their rock.

The BRS rock is way more porous than the florida base rock. I just ordered 150 lbs of dry Fiji and got it in less than a week.

how did you order the rock from them? ryan told me it wasnt in stock? unless you got lucky and ordered a couple of weeks ago when they still had some left.
I wish I could order from BRS.
And yes, florida rock is alot more dense and also heavier - Marco has florida dry rock for 0.99/lbs 2.50 for the same seems like a rip off.

best price i've found & will prob be using on my rock wall build in my new tank build:

http://www.reeftopia.com/completecatalog-a.htm

#227 - 80lbs for $150 shipped fedex
#228 - 200lbs for $360 shipped fedex

eamil to them about it:

* is this live rock w/ coraline growth on it or is it plain base rock???
* what size ranges are the rocks??

Hi there,
Our rock is fossilized coral that has been underwater for a year or more. There is some coraline algae on it. It is all cured and has some tunicats on it. Our sizes range from fist to softball size.

Thanks
Shannon/Reeftopia

I ordered marco rock as well back on 10-15 and just cancelled a few days ago. Marco did respond to the cancellation (by refunding the money back to my PayPal account) but didnt offer any date of when the rock is coming in.
I just ordered some base rock from sea life inc out of florida. Havent received it yet to give any reviews but the price is right.

www.bulkreefsupply.com all the way

gbothepro- no, dry rock is basically just dead rock. live rock usually has coralline algae on it and other critters living in it, etc.

The dry rock you can find at the link above is all completely "dead".. there is nothing living on it, but is actual rock that was once "live" on a reef and therefore makes it ideal for the hobby because of how porous it is, etc.

Is dry rock a good bio filter? Or does it need to be live to filter?

Dry rock, in a tank with a bio load, provided it has any porosity at all, will become live rock. Then it will be an effective part of your biological filtration.
