Oh CRAP! Oceanic Center Brace Popped Off!

The center brace on my 156 popped away from the rear wall of the tank. (Glass isn't broken, just the silicone gave way.) How often does this happen "out there?" How much structural support does it really add? I have three clamps on the tank at the moment -- one on each end and one in the center -- until the problem can be rectified. Just wondering how much of a crisis such an event creates.

If gap isn't present between the end of the brace and the glass ,after it came apart,I would say it wasn't needed but if a gap was present I would say the opposite. I'm assuming the aquarium was full of water when this occurred.

Still under warranty? I'd call Oceanic

there's a couple of millimeters gap as far as I can tell by feel. I don't know whether that is present as tank is originally fabricated, to give clearnace to put brace in place and caulk, or whether that is attributable to filling and use. (Yes, tank is filled; rockwork is built up in middle of tank, not all leaning against back of tank.)

Oceanic advertises lifetime guarantee on their ultra tanks, which this tank is. First call when I found this last night was to LFS where I purchased. The gentleman there with whom I spoke started talking about scraping off all the silicone to get down to bare glass in order to be able to re-caulk it, but I'm not going to go that route. Tank gets replaced, not jury-rigged with a home caulk job. (I can just see a major problem down the line and such a home repair having nullified all future warranty.) I will speak to owner of LFS today and trust we will be able to do so.

The real pain in the rear is going to be swapping out, particularly since I really like the way I've aquascaped and it NEVER goes back the same regardless of how many notes/pictures you take.

Don't take a chance on it, replace it as soon as you can. While your at it, try and get them to upgrade you

The first thing they are going to ask is,was the tank and stand bought at the same time,or is it a home made stand. If it's a home made stand then the warranty is no good.Thats what the LFS's around here tell us.

That's the pits, but sounds like you've got a good handle on forward plan. Hope the LFS gets it settled out for you.

I doubt the rock leaning on the back would cause it. It was probably just the force of all the water that did it.
