Here is a current thread going concerning the same topic. I really liked the Remora when I ran one on a 40 gallon but I really liked a Tunze 9010 that I had in the past also. Consider adding a Tunze Skimmer to your list of possibilities.

The Warner Marine is nice but unless your tank is rimless it wont fit. They made the hanging mount too thin. So the Octopus with the sicce gets my vote.
If price isn't an issue go with a Deltec MCE600. I had one on my 72 bow, its a bad *** skimmer. |

my 2 cents worth...
I used a CPR Bak Pak II for about 3 years. My experences w/the unit are listed... +Did a decent job pulling skimmate +easy to clean +durable never leaked +no replacement needed in 3yrs +cheap -Noisey -Maxi Jet needed constant cleaning -never seemed to do as much as expected -1/2 cup of skimmate 4-6weeks -air injection line needed constant adjustments -Did I say it was loud? hope that this helps! I also had the CPR BPII not reef ready. I ran w/bio bale for a year w nitrates @40> removed bio bale nitrates @10-20ppm. Finally in my opp. I would do a DIY skimmer. How about some pics of your situation... Dave |

the sicce pumps are great, lots of power/air draw and low watts.
They do have some start up issues with the mesh mod. But they are minor. I have 2 of the pumps on my Bubble Master 250.

I have a bermuda rogue and it is the best skimmer i have had. I think it is comparable to the deltec, for less money. Id love to put a sicce pump on the rogue. Can only imagine what it would do then.

I have the 800S. Nice skimmer but the pump almost overpowers the skimmer body. I drilled a couple 3/8" holes between the reaction chamber and the first (suction) chamber. This slowed the flow through the skimmer, made it more stable and eliminated all micro bubbles. It also let the skimmer act as a simple recirculating skimmer.
It does come with 2 impellers. The original and a needle wheel. The needle wheel is installed in the skimmer and you can mesh mod the stock impeller with the included mesh. I did the mesh mod with the recirculation holes and the skimmer kicks @$$. |

None of them, the only HOB skimmer I would choose is a aqua medic turbfloater multi. I own it, use it and reccomend it to everyone.

i started with a mag3 and changed to a mag5. Awesome skimmer. Like i said before id love to see what a sicce pump would do. Luke33 is the skimmer man and he has alot of info on every skimmer i can think of. He got booted from rc though and can only be found on disterbed reefers. Nothin against rc but that site is off the chain.

I used a remora with a MJ1200 on my 40gal, and it went from lots of hair algae to none in about a month. No other changes. I hear the octo's are nice though.

I had my rogue on my sump so i wouldnt have a big mag pump in my tank. I could see why you wouldnt want a big eye sore like that in your tank.

you missed one...TUNZE!!!!! 9002 or 9010 depending on how stocked your tank is.
mind you it is a in-tank skimmer.........(or can be placed in sump once you upgrade....)
