Temperature Controller Question
I have had issues with my temp fluctuating plus or minus one and a half to two degrees. I am considering adding a temp controller to stabilize this. My question is will this be sufficient, or am i going to have to purchase a chiller as well? I like to keep my place pretty cool. so I?m hoping a chiller wont be necessary.

I keep my ranco's differential at 2 degrees. Some people's tanks fluctuate 6 or more. I wouldn't consider it a problem.

not a problem at all. Greenbean recommends a variation from 78~86. Mine runs from 80~84+ with no problems

My tank will fluctuates 4 or 5 degrees in a day and unless it falls outside of the 76 to 85 degree range I don't manipulate it with heaters and chillers.

But dont these temperature instabilities contribute to marine diseases such as ich? I have lost fish to it an thought that keeping the temperature stabilised would help.

I also let my tank fluctuate 3 or 4 degrees a day. A natural reef changes temp with tide and weather and also day and night.

If the temp goes from 82 deg to 76 over a period of 8 or 10 hours, or 76 up to 82....84..86. Its all about HOW FAST. If it does this same swing in 1 to 2 hours, This will shock everything & most likely kill things. REMEMBER.....the Ocean doesn't keep a steady temp......same goes for your tank
