Well it depends... some more info about the skimmer and pump are needed. With some skimmers yes and some no...

Is the skimmer a re circulating skimmer that needs two pumps? How is water fed to the skimmer? What kind of plumbing inputs does the skimmer have? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a better understanding for what you have. Some pics would be helpful too.

if its a TRUE venturi (beckett nozzle, bermuda nozzle) where air is pulled in after the pump they usually require a pretty strong pump to get the best out of them. No beckett will work well with a Mag 5. IF your talking about a regular aspirating skimmer often generically called venturi skimmers well that totally depends on what skimmer, the size of it and how well the pump pulls air. since its a DIY what works well is going to be experimental.

this one only needs one pump. it has an airline that attaches to the pump. i have seen some power heads that you can attach an airline to, this reminds me of it. which made me think that i could proabbly only use a power head to replace the "stock" pump.
all i know is that it makes bubbles in the vertacle cylindar and they eventually make their way up into the collection cup on top. thanks! |
