Aquascaping Ideas: Minimalism/ 1/3 Rule Etc
Hey Guys,
Now that I'm redoing my aquascape, it'd be great to see what others are doing or have done! If you got pics of nice clean aquascaping, post em. Links to visual theory on aquascaping (1/3 rule) and articles on the subject would be nice too. As a newby, it'd be nice to see examples of functional rock work. Personally, I know when I first ventured into this hobby, my tendency was just to randomly pile rocks into big ugly mounds. I'm not sure if there is a sticky on the subject for newbies, but it'd be great to start one! |

I know what golden rule you are talking about. I have heard it refered to as the 3/5 rule also. Just a few weeks ago I heard a talk given by Dr. Paul Whitby explaining this very subject. He gave several examples (visually). Probably one of the more interesting talks I've had the chance to hear and see. I do not feel qualified to give any examples, since my current tank does not follow the 3/5 rule. You may want to look seapug up. If you can catch him, I believe he has a very good example of the 3/5 rule. Super nice tank!

Here is the minamilist rockwork considering their is no rock. Now remember I am only planning on the one fish I have which is a clown. I am thinking mine is like 1/5 for fullness and 0/5 for rock.
But I will be adding some more rock to the tank to make the boat higher so the top is not so empty.

I don't know much about aquascaping, but maybe you can find a rock that comes to a point/looks like a mountain. Make it look like the ship may have hit the rock & it's what caused it to split & sink.

I used this thread by dascharisma as an inspiration for my rockwork. Lots of shelves, caves, peninsulas, and open space. Anything but a pile of rocks!

Yea I was planning on the back of the bout being about 1 foot off the sand on a rock with a point like everyones hero said and then the front sticking straight in the sand to give it the sunken look and that the boat splitt in half

Those sunken ships are pretty cool, but they're pretty expensive (what isn't in this hobby?)
A co-worker of mine has talked about setting up a tank & putting some Jason thing he has in as the center piece. |
