why buy live sand if it cause diatom algae
ok. maybe im missing something here. i went from a 55 gal tank to 120 gal tank my 55 was up and running for a year and i just changed every thing over to the 120. so i need more rock and sand so i went to my lfs and bought new live rock all of was cover in coralline algae and some live sand that comes in the 25 pound bag with water in it. so why do i have diatom algae every were? thats why i bought all live stuff so that i wouldnt be haveing this problem. if its because of this i could have bought uncured stuff and saved about $300.00 dollars.

ANytime you set up a new tank, even with all 'cured' stuff, you are going to see a diatom bloom. IT just happens. It is nothing to get upset about, it will go away soon enough.
