aqua c remora not skimming

Hello all,

a little background:
I have a 30g dt that orig was using the aqua c remora HOB skimmer which is being powered by a mj1200. It seemed to work very well as I had to empty the cup every few days. I added a 10g sump/fuge about a month ago and have since removed the skimmer and placed it in there. Now I dont seem to be receiving any skimmate. I've cleaned the maxijet and have not noticed a difference. Have I outgrown the capacity of the skimmer? Are there any mods or suggestions that can be done that will help me continue to use this skimmer?

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Oh, and I spoke to a buddy who is running a remora nano as a supplementary skimmer on a 55g w/ 30g sump and his seems to be working quite well. There must be something else that needs to be adjusted or cleaned.

My Remora did this too and I bent a brush to clean where the water is sprayed out and backed off of the screw just a little, like a half turn, and now mine is skimming like crazy.

I assume you've tried lowering the colletion cup? You can try fiddling with that nozzle inside the filter too, might make the stream creating the bubbles more aggresive.

Yes, I've adjusted the height of the cup. No improvement. I'll try cleaning it tonight and will adjust the screw. The white screw, right?

The white screw isn't actually meant for any adjustment. It's only purpose is to remove it to provide access to cleaning the air injector. If you don't have the brush that Remora provides, you can clean it with an appropriately sized pipe cleaner or a baby bottle nipple brush. Here's some information. http://www.proteinskimmer.com/User%2...als/Remora.pdf

Also,

have you leveled your Remora sinice the move?

I mean actually put a level on it, not just by sight. Make sure it's level front, side and top....

My remora did the same when I moved it to my newly set-up sump about a year back. It took about 3 weeks before it started skimming. I think if you just give it time it will kick in. Good luck.

IME Remoras are good but tempermental I have the Remora running with a maxi 1200 it does a great job but sometimes it will stop skimming and fill my tank with micro bubbles and when it starts to skim again no bubbles. Just give it time and it'll start skimming again.
