My OR2500 (first pump ever)

Just got it the other day (the first pump I have ever had) and I'm excited. I bought it used and it seems to be in decent shape . The tank is STILL coming together, I predict I'll have it up and running sometime in January, maybe February..

Anyways, there are 2 nuts that connect to the pump. One secures the whole thing down and I assume the other is for the return pipe to connect to. I had already purchased some "flexible pvc pipe" that is 3/4" and 2 feet long at home depot..

Probably should have waited to buy it because now when I read their website it says "For outdoor use with cold water only" & "Use with 3/4 In. barb fittings." (its too wide for the 3/4" fitting on the pump).

This is a sketch of my sump and how I would like for the flexible pipe to be used. I would like for it to be there because I feel like I would have less vibration than a normal PVC.

Am I over analyzing this and should I just get some regular PVC? Do you guys glue the PVC into the top nut? What does your return line look like?

Thanks for the help

Flexible PVC or even vinyl tubing is fine for submersed pump connections - you are right it reduces vibration. I don't know about the cold water outdoor use thing though. The kind I got was spa-flex, or if you get vinyl tubing make sure it is approved for food use.

thanks for the reply.
should the pipe be glued in where it connects to the pump? Can silicone be used for this (ge #1)..?

I went into lowes and asked the person for spa-flex, he gave me a weird look and said they didn't have it. Even though I've seen several people on here get it from lowes. I'll have to try home depot this week.

I use the barbed nipple on the pump discharge connected to a foot or so of clear reinforced vinyl tubing before I transition to hard PVC. This gives you some flexibility plus reduces noise from vibrations that will travel through PVC pipe.

do you just push the vinyl tubing on there or have you added some zip ties?

i also have the barb. though I'm not sure if a part to connect it to the pump is missing or if I need to go buy a connector.

The barbed connector should fasten with the screw nut if I remember right. You should have a couple of options like found here in the manual:
http://www.aqua-medic.com/products/docs/OR_Pumps.pdf

I don't use any hose clamps or tie wraps, it fits very snug but I suppose nylon tie wraps couldn't hurt.

the barbed connector can not fasten to any of the screw nuts for me (I feel like a piece or two may be missing..?). Maybe I can find something at lowes.

is there any chance you could drop a picture azdesertrat?

edit: heres a few pics to show you what I'm working with.

everything

the barbed fitting doesn't fit directly on (its just sitting on top).

You have what you need in the first and second pictures. Slip a piece of clear tubing over the nipple and screw the nut up to tighten the tube connection.

Yeah I figured something like that would be best for my setup and what I have.

What do you think about gluing the tubing on? I'm just scared of it sliding off.

I just did my plumbing for my sump using the same pump. I just used hard PVC through out and i have no viberation. Also all i did was just hand tighten the nut on. You could use some plumbers tape but i don't think i would glue it. I was very suprised how quiet it is. excellent pump for the money!!

Could you show me a picture of the pipe connecting the pump? When you say just "hand tighten the nut on" what does that exactly mean? Appreciate it, sorry for all the questions and what not lol .

On your sump design, I think it might be better if you feed your fuge with dirty water coming from the tank, rather than the cleaner skimmed water. So it might be better to put the "T" on the drain line rather than the return line. I'm just sayin...
