Kill aptasia with a laser.
I was looking around Youtube and saw some guys burning things with the newer green laser pointers. The lasers are slightly modified, some as easy as removing the filter in the cap. For some reason when I saw it, aptasia popped into my head. I wonder if you can burn this stuff with the pinpoint accuracy of a laser? The water would most likely ruin the hole thing, and just cool the laser, but maybe not. I for sure wouldn't aim the laser threw my plexi glass, it would for sure burn it. Probably would not aim it threw regular glass either, don't want some sort of thermal shock. Anyone have an already modified burning laser? Probably not lol
That would be great if you could just point your laser at them for a minute, and they would just die. Someone try this lol. I only have the cheep red laser.

Well, the green lasers are VERY dangerous to the retina. The modified ones EVEN more so.
And you are proposing shining it against a reflective surface? I see a guide dog in your future... Seriously though, do not do this. Those green lasers are very dangerous and you MUST wear eye protection at all times when using them. |

I saw a Utube video last week with step by step instuctions for converting a pocket pen flashlight to a laser burner with the laser from a DVD. I kinda wondered if it was for real though. At any rate, I wouldn't shine it on glass or acrylic. I really doubt if it would work well through water.

The water would caus the light to defract. Also I think the water would have too much of a cooling effect to get the aptasia hot enogh to kill it but you could try.
As for the danger of the laser light all you need to do is wear either blue or red glasses. |

I don't think the water would refract the light enough, but it's thermal coefficient would ruin any hopes of killing aiptasia with heat. If you want to cook them, pull the rock out of the tank and fire up the blow torch. I've done that in the past.

or perhaps it will result in supercharged Green Laser Aptasia that can breathe air and escape from the tank at night to kill you while you sleep.
Kalk paste works well enough for me.

I tried it with a 75mW green laser without any success.
http://www.wickedlasers.com/lasers/E...ries-54-3.html I did it in water and even took the rock out. Remember to wear your googles if you do try. Because once the beam hits water it can bounce and become dangerous. |

We could throw sharks into this mix and get sharks with fricking laserbeams on their heads
