Warner Marine K series Cone skimmer Review !!!!!

OK, I made some promises in my skimmer review page that there was a new bad boy on the way. Well, today it arrived. I have the brand spankn' new K series skimmer sitting in my sump as I write. I am going to upload some pics tonight.
At first glance this thing is beautiful. The build quality is amazing. It is everything that I thought it would be. I got it in my sump and fired it up. The first thing I looked at was the flow of the bubbles. As bubble come out of the bubble plate the go straight up. There is no swirl effect like I would see in my msx, octopus, or any other skimmer I have reviewed. This skimmer does use the bubble ring technology. Refer to this thread for more infor on the bubble ring.

I had to leave it in hurry as it was time for me to shoot off to work. I did want to post that the K series skimmer is for real and I have one. Woot !!
We will see how it does. I am expecting alot from this skimmer as it is a premium product and will compete with the top names in skimmers. It does come witha sicce pump and a huge 1/2 inch airline going to the venturi. Icant say to much about it as I was only able to see it run for about 15 minutes before leaving. I will post more in a couple hours. I am holding this skimmer to pretty high standards so we will see if it can hang.

Oooh, you lucky dog. I'm waiting for the WM mini-cone to come out for my 55g reef, but I cannot wait to see how the K-1 performs. It is great to hear about the lack of turbulence. It seems as if Jon has really done some fine CNC work there.

Yes he has. The Warner Marine skimmer line all are very well built from what I can see. But this skimmer is a step above. I cant wait to get home to see how she is doing.

I ll see what I can do. It is larger than I first tought it would be. but it has about the same footprint as the msx/ octo 200 as far as I can tell. Its sets in my 30 gallon sump.

The Base on this skimmer is 10 inches. I didnt get an exact measurement but will try to get some as this review goes on. The skimmer is solid. I did take some pictures today before I put it in my sump. It seems to be pulling a good deal of air and runs really quiet. The skimmer has rubber feet on the skimmer body and the pump. Making it almost silient. So far I am impressed with the build quality and how quiet it is. I do enjoy skimmers if you all havent noticed but I am fair in all my reviews. This willbeno different.
I think this has the making of being the best skimmer I have owned. And I dont say that lightly. I will know more over the next couple weeks. I will get some air readings as well so you all can see what kind of air this actually pulls.

ok I am home and loading video now. As with the other Warner Marine skimmer I had it works better in around 6 to 8 inches of water. Mine was @ 9" so I had to put my little stand in my sump. Not a big deal. I will be making new baffles next week that are 7 inches. My vacation project. I am excited to report the bubbles rise up just like Jon Warner said they would with their bubble ring. You do not get the swirling around like you do in the other skimmers. The water in the skimmer chamber is very calm. Everything seems to be heading in a upward motion and the bubbles just keep expanding. I just cleaned it out as it is breaking in but it is really quiet but you can just tell its pulling air really well. I ll get my meter on it in hte next couple days. I put the lid of the skimmer cup next to the one of my octo extreme 200 and the Warner MArine is over twice as thick as the one from overseas. This skimmer is built in a different league that for sure. Build quality is awesome. Now it will just take time to see how it performs for me.

How many hours has it been running and did you give it a bath in anything before you fired it up?.

I had to go look as it didnt stick out. I did find a small seam but its looks like a fine hair up the side. It is well put together there is no doubt about that. I dont have a ATB cone to compare it too but I am sure from the one I have seen in person, That the build quality of this skimmer will have them raising the bar. I just went over and checked out the skimmer and the skimmer is starting to get a thicker head on it and is breaking in really nice. Time will tell. Stay tuned.

Wow watching that video my skimmer doesn't do anything like that I have so much turbulence I think I could drown a fish in it.

Vid looks very nice.

I thought Jon was going to put the pump under the skimmer somehow to reduce the footprint. I thought he was going to do a 10.5"x 10.5" footprint, including pump. Is your K-1 the final production model or a prototype?

This was the K1 but actually will be the K2 skimmer. the K1 will have the pump underneath. The K1 as it will be in final production will be available mid january as far I as I have been told. I am just the average joe here that has been given a chance to buy one of these a little early for some beta testing. As my skimmer other skimmer review post shows I have had several skimmers as I enjoy new products. It has cost me quite a bit of money along the way as well. This skimmer is actually really close to the size of the ATB medium. I will check out the air draw on it soon but from what I understand it will pull a little more air at around 1000 lph. I ll have to check it to verify those numbers. This is running on a pinwheel as well.

So, they will be releasing two versions of this skimmer.....k1 and k2? I wonder what the performance difference will be between the two models. From what I've read the K1 is supposed to be just an inch taller then the one you have mojo.....which I thought was just a prototype. With that said, I'm guessing that there will be some type of base similar to the octo extreme 160 that the cone will sit on top of unless the pump is placed inside the cone. I'm going to have to call warner marine up to gather some more info on this unit. You have one sweet skimmer..........thanks for posting.
