Lumenarc,Lumenbright or Lumenmax reflectors for my 180g??
Lumenarc,Lumenbright or Lumenmax reflectors for my 180g? I have a mixed reef and I am going to run Radium20k bulbs on Ice Cap Ballast. I do not want to run any supplemental lighting. But I am going to run moonlights. Also which model.

depending on how much room you have above the tank. If you can fit LBs do that. If not get the LMs. I have the LBs and they are great.

I have vaulted cielings so room is not a problem. I was thinking of a canopy but I don't know. It would look alot nicer but to much work. So lumabrights huh? Why? I just read here that they will have a bright spot where as the lumenarcs do not. more consistent??

When your raise them up 16" the "bright spot" is your whole tank, they are only spotlighty when hung low.
Are you running 400's or 250's and do you plan on running two or three bulbs. |

I have three 400w Lumenarc minis on my 220 and two 250s on my frag tank. I am completly satisfied with these reflectors. On the 220, the distance from the water to the bulb is around 9 inches. The light distribution throughout the tank is great.

Actually, they come in all wattage flavors except for 1000. Heck, they may have that now too.

I'm in the same situation for my 240, I was going to get the Lumen Max Elite Mogul Base Reflector that just came out and get them from Marine Depot. 3 days ago they were $149, I just looked a few minutes ago and they were $164.99, well I guess you know what I'm going for now, but really $15 is a bit steep for a price increase......Come on MD get real!!!!

Thank's Mako for the heads-up, really looking forward to getting these. I have had Lumenarc as well as Lumenbrights and from what I have seen I really like the LME spread and light penetration, it is just an all around better reflector look wise. I know the Lumen crowd will attack on this opinion, but when you see them compared to the others it really throws you back and makes you wonder how that bumpy reflector could work so well.

Lumenarcs seem to have the better bang for the buck. Someone on here had both and posted par levels with both lumenarcs handsdown.

I tried the Lumenarcs and brights on my 180 and went with the Lemuenarcs. I do not have any numbers but the Lumenarcs looked better to me. I had to move the brights way up to get the same spread, and that decreased the amount of light.

LA = spread LME = best of both worlds. LB definitely have more par & penetration than a LA & LME when properly mounted at 16" height. Crappy spider reflectors IMO give the best look visually than all reflectors mentioned. You don't get that overbearing bright lit tank, there are shadows, corals pop more. Best growth I've gotten is from the LB, even with sps on my sandbed. |
