snails and slugs

recently my set for 1y tank has begun to i guess kill off the snails and slugs for some unknown reason and recently it has turned a bit cloudy. i think thats bacteria blooming from the deaths. the thing is i get these algae eatters say mex snails and sea hare slug and after watching then graze for a few days fine all of a suddenly they keel over. the last thing to keel was the hare. one day he was alive the next he was dead with his back splitting open. ive tested and retested the water, now im here.

what are you testing for, with what kits, and how old are the kits?

I would say you've missed an ammonia/nitrite spike. This can pass un-noticed

Then a chain reaction has followed.
Death....spike....more death....spike etc.

If it was me I'd remove all the dead creatures(if you havent already done so).
Then do a series of large water changes every 2 days.

Also ensure the PH is low as a high ph will only make an ammonia spike worse.

Good luck.
